This was the first picture he made after it. He had stripped away every recognisable thing, and even his own brushstrokes, because he believed art should show deeper truths than the surface of the world.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2 class=\"story\"\u003eThe big red plane\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA large red square sits near the top. Around it, a black grid holds a yellow block, a black square, a band of blue and planes of light grey. The money let Mondrian rent a better studio in Paris, on the rue du Départ.
