Prisoners Exercising
From $100
Van Gogh painted this field in thick, curving strokes you can almost feel, and a flat reproduction turns them into a green blur. Our Green Wheat Fields Auvers print was graded beside the original, faithful to his fresh greens and the cool blue and white of the sky, with every ridge of paint still casting its own small shadow.
Stretched canvas. Printed on cotton canvas and stretched taut over a frame. The edges are mirror-wrapped, so the picture continues around the sides and none of it is lost to the fold.
Framed canvas. The same canvas, set in a black, white, natural wood or dark wood frame 0.83 in deep. The frame gives the work a finished edge and a little more presence on the wall.
Framed print. Printed on fine art matte paper and framed in solid pine, behind shatterproof plexiglass, in black, white, natural wood or dark wood. It arrives ready to hang. Framed sizes are measured on the outside of the frame.
Fine art print. Printed on 310gsm fine art matte paper, for framing your own way. It travels rolled and protected. From 18x24 inch.
20x16 inch, 30x24 inch, 40x32 inch. Framed sizes are measured on the outside of the frame, so the visible painting is a little smaller.
It brings a fresh, living green to a kitchen, a dining room or a home office, and it pairs beautifully with sage, cream, white oak and plants. A natural wood or white frame keeps it light; black makes the greens glow.
About the painting
In the spring of 1890 Van Gogh moved to Auvers-sur-Oise, a village north of Paris, and painted the fields around it again and again. This is one of them: a field of young wheat, still green, with a few yellow flowers, under a sky full of rolling clouds. It was the last year of his life.
There are no people here and no buildings, only wheat, flowers and sky. Van Gogh makes the wind visible: every stroke bends the same way, so the whole field seems to sway. The clouds curl like the waves of the sea, and the paint stands up from the canvas.
Green Wheat Fields, Auvers belongs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington. It is about 72 by 91 centimetres, and on a wall it feels like an open window onto a breezy day.
In the last summer of his life, Vincent van Gogh painted a field with no houses and no people in it, only the wind.
It's 1890, in Auvers, a village just north of Paris.
He has come back to the north after two years in the hot south.
He turns down a room at six francs a day as too dear, and takes one at an inn for three francs fifty.
He is thirty-seven. A year ago he was a patient in a hospital, and now he feels calmer.
Each day he walks past the old thatched roofs into the fields.
The wheat is still green, and it runs up towards the hills as wide as the sea.
He paints it in long, curving strokes, thick greens and blues that ripple across the canvas.
Here and there he scatters bursts of small yellow flowers.
The wind moves through all of it. You can almost hear it.
He writes to his mother that he is lost in that wide plain, and feels a calm that is almost too much.
Not every day is like that. On some days, he writes, the brush nearly falls from his hand.
But in this field there is only green, and sky, and wind.
Before that summer is over, he will be gone.
In his painting the wheat never turns gold. It stays green, and the wind never stops.
Step off the road, and walk in.

Faithful to the original, and made to be felt on your wall.
We compare every work with the original as we grade it, keeping the artist’s colours true while bringing back their depth and glow. Every mark stays the artist’s own.
Printed to order on cotton canvas or fine art paper, then framed if you chose a frame, in 1 to 3 business days.
It arrives 5 to 12 business days later, tracked and free anywhere in the US. Framed pieces come ready to hang.
No. The original hangs in a museum. What you receive is a fine art reproduction, remastered from the original and printed for you, with every mark where the artist left it.
This is where most reproductions disappoint, and it is where we spend the most time. Each work is graded side by side with the original: faithful to the artist’s colours, with the depth and warmth brought back, so it moves you on the wall the way it was meant to. Canvas reads a touch softer than a backlit screen, and every screen shows colour a little differently.
Each size is a standard frame size, so we fit the painting by trimming a little from its edges. We never stretch or squash it, and we check every size by eye so no face, figure or signature is cut. On canvas the edges are mirror-wrapped, which keeps the whole picture on the front.
Aim for about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. Over a sofa or a sideboard, one of the two largest sizes will hold the wall. The size guide lists every size in inches and centimetres, with the kind of wall each one suits.
Your piece is printed in 1–3 business days, then spends 5–12 business days in transit, tracked all the way. Delivery is free anywhere in the US. We are unable to deliver to PO boxes.
