Vincent van Gogh
Prisoners Exercising
From $100
This bouquet is painted in thick creamy whites and pinks on pale green, and a dull copy greys it. Our Van Gogh vase with pink roses print was graded beside the original so the roses stay soft and the green keeps the colour of new leaves.
Stretched canvas. Printed on cotton canvas and stretched taut over a frame. The edges are mirror-wrapped, so the picture continues around the sides and none of it is lost to the fold.
Framed canvas. The same canvas, set in a black, white, natural wood or dark wood frame 0.83 in deep. The frame gives the work a finished edge and a little more presence on the wall.
Framed print. Printed on fine art matte paper and framed in solid pine, behind shatterproof plexiglass, in black, white, natural wood or dark wood. It arrives ready to hang. Framed sizes are measured on the outside of the frame.
Fine art print. Printed on 310gsm fine art matte paper, for framing your own way. It travels rolled and protected. From 18x24 inch.
20x16 inch, 30x24 inch, 40x32 inch. Framed sizes are measured on the outside of the frame, so the visible painting is a little smaller.
Its landscape shape suits a dining room, a bedroom or a living room. The creams, pinks and greens look fresh with white, sage and pale oak, and a natural or white frame suits it.
About the painting
In May 1890 Vincent van Gogh was about to leave the asylum at Saint-Rémy, in Provence, after a year. In his last days there he painted, he told his sister, “great bouquets of flowers, violet-colored irises, great bouquets of roses.”
The museum that owns it says the roses were pink once, and the colour has faded to near-white. The background has “the delicate color of new leaves in spring.” He painted it so thickly that he left it behind to dry when he went north.
It reached him at Auvers in late June. Later it belonged to the Paris collector Paul Gallimard and to W. Averell Harriman, who gave it to the National Gallery of Art in Washington in 1991.
These roses were pink when Vincent van Gogh painted them. Time has turned them almost white.
It's May 1890, at the asylum of Saint-Rémy, in Provence.
After a year here, Vincent is well enough to leave, and in his last days he paints flowers.
Great bouquets of flowers, he tells his sister, violet irises, great bouquets of roses.
Here a big bunch of roses fills a vase, set against a wall of fresh, pale green.
The museum that owns it says the green has the delicate colour of new leaves in spring.
The roses were pink, so the pink and the green would have glowed against each other.
But the pink has faded, and now the flowers look almost white.
He lays the paint on so thickly that the canvas has to stay behind to dry when he leaves for the north.
It reaches him at Auvers in late June.
Today it belongs to the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
Look at the roses, and try to imagine them pink again.

Faithful to the original, and made to be felt on your wall.
We compare every work with the original as we grade it, keeping the artist’s colours true while bringing back their depth and glow. Every mark stays the artist’s own.
Printed to order on cotton canvas or fine art paper, then framed if you chose a frame, in 1 to 3 business days.
It arrives 5 to 12 business days later, tracked and free anywhere in the US. Framed pieces come ready to hang.
No. The original hangs in a museum. What you receive is a fine art reproduction, remastered from the original and printed for you, with every mark where the artist left it.
This is where most reproductions disappoint, and it is where we spend the most time. Each work is graded side by side with the original: faithful to the artist’s colours, with the depth and warmth brought back, so it moves you on the wall the way it was meant to. Canvas reads a touch softer than a backlit screen, and every screen shows colour a little differently.
Each size is a standard frame size, so we fit the painting by trimming a little from its edges. We never stretch or squash it, and we check every size by eye so no face, figure or signature is cut. On canvas the edges are mirror-wrapped, which keeps the whole picture on the front.
Aim for about two-thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. Over a sofa or a sideboard, one of the two largest sizes will hold the wall. The size guide lists every size in inches and centimetres, with the kind of wall each one suits.
